In 2012, Awkwafina became a sensation on YouTube and MTV, then moved on to films - Crazy Rich Asians, Ocean's 8, Jumanji, and Shang-Chi. She won a Golden Globe Award for best actress for The Farewell. Awkwafina is a writer, and exe. producer of the TV series, Nora from Queens. She won awards for her voice-over work in Raya and the Last Dragon. Awkwafina hosted Saturday Night Live. She’s appeared on magazine covers: Vogue, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and Marie Claire. Awkwafina supported the Time's Up movement, and advocates for more female directors and against the stereotyping of Asians in media. She majored in journalism and women's studies graduating from the University of NY. She is the daughter of Chinese-American and Korean-American parents. She speaks Mandarin, can play the trumpet and has a trumpet tattoo. She’s a funny woman.
